WAITRESS, the Tony nominated musical will be premiering at the National Arts Centre on December 31 for a limited engagement and is looking for two young girls to perform the role of “Lulu” for the duration of the engagement.
The “Search for Lulu” will take place in Ottawa on Friday November 15 at 9:30AM at the Dana Hanes Dance Company. The audition will consist of the child repeating two lines from the show. If possible, parents should bring a current headshot and resume for each child. Headshot, resume and prior acting experience is not required.
The character of “Lulu” is a sweet and carefree 4 to 5-year-old who appears in the production’s finale scene. Qualified young girls should be shorter than 4’2 and be no older than 5 years and 3 months. Individual applicants are welcome, as are sets of twins or siblings. Space is limited to the first 60 applicants to sign up.
The character of “Lulu” will be cast locally in the week long tour markets and two girls are chosen to share the role. Each girl chosen will perform in 4 performances each during the one week engagement.

How early do I need to arrive prior to my scheduled audition?
Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to the audition session time for which you signed up. To sign up, please click here.
What should my child wear?
The character’s costume is simple denim with a t-shirt, so participants can wear whatever makes them comfortable. The audition will require running; therefore, children should wear appropriate shoes to run in safely.
What do we need to bring?
Please bring a current photo and resume, if available. When your audition time is confirmed, you will also receive several documents to review and sign and bring to the audition with you.
Do I get to watch my child audition?
Children will be brought into the audition room with staff and parents will be asked to wait outside for the 5-minute audition.
How long will the audition take?
Each audition is expected to take approximately 5 minutes, however it may take some time to get to your child. Please be prepared to stay at the audition for approximately 1-2 hours.
Where do I go when I arrive?
Please go to the lobby area once you arrive at the Dana Hanes Dance Company. Please check in with a Broadway Across Canada staff member upon arrival.
Who decides which actresses will be cast?
All casting decisions are made by the company representing WAITRESS.
If my child is cast, what is the expectation?
Your child should be available December 31 to January 5 at the National Arts Centre for performances of Waitress. The part appears in the finale so children should be prepared to be at the theatre until at least 11PM. Additional information will be provided to those selected by the company of Waitress.
What if my child cannot make one of the scheduled performances but would still like to audition?
Each actress should be prepared to step in at any of the eight scheduled performances. Any conflicts should be disclosed at the audition.
When will we be notified of casting?
The production office will contact the parent or guardian by phone or email within two weeks of the audition. The names will also be announced on the Broadway Across Canada Facebook page and website.
